Mango has started the expansion works of the mega logistics center that the company has in Lliçà d’Amunt (Barcelona), and which was put into operation at the end of 2019. As reported by the company, it will allocate 35 million euros to add an additional 90,000 square meters of surface, with which it will reach a total of 280,000 m2, equivalent to about 40 soccer fields.

The possibility of expansion was already planned since the installation started, something that the company has already begun to implement. With it, Mango plans to save 25% in the costs of preparing orders received through the online channel. “The purpose of the expansion is to allow the center to assume the growth of e-commerce logistics (being able to send orders directly to the end customer), to provide the dispatch area with greater capacity and agility and to support new business lines de Mango, “the company describes in a statement.

Its CEO, Toni Ruiz, explains in it that “the increase we are experiencing in e-commerce confirms that projecting this expansion was a wise decision, since it will make it easier for us to automate certain tasks in order to deliver the expected volume. Maintaining investments in strategic projects that allow us to anticipate future needs and be more competitive is a priority for the company ”. In 2020, 42% of Mango’s sales were generated through its online store, reaching 766 million. The goal for this year is to reach 1,000.

The expansion will have three floors and is expected to begin to provide service in the second half of 2022, to be fully operational for physical stores and online channel in 2023. “With the expansion we will be able to give the center a fully omnichannel character, taking advantage of the maximum current facilities and complementing it with more specific solutions for e-commerce ”, adds Toni Ruiz.

With the expansion, Mango will take the opportunity to incorporate new automation, such as a classifier that will allow sequencing of orders and automate the management of returns; It will have autonomous mobile robots for the internal movement of the center; and a classifier will be added to manage the expeditions.

With all this, the center will manage 10,000 more garments per hour and will reach 85.0.00. In addition, the new building will have an installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof, which will provide the necessary energy to generate sanitary hot water, as well as charging stations for electric vehicles.
