Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have agreed to pay a fine of 210 million dollars (176 million euros) in the US after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, for its acronym in English) ) ordered the recall of 1.6 million vehicles that have a fire risk engine.

The NHTSA has noted that South Korean automakers have accepted the fine after the agency said they had reported “incorrectly” about these propellants, manufactured between 2015 and 2017.

Specifically, Hyundai must face a total payment of 140 million dollars (117 million euros), including 54 million dollars (45 million euros) in advance, 40 million dollars (33 million euros) in security measures and an additional $ 46 million (€ 38 million) if you do not meet the requirements.

For its part, Kia will pay 70 million dollars (58.5 million euros): 27 million dollars (22.5 million euros) in advance, 16 million dollars (13.3 million euros) in security measures and another 27 million dollars (22.5 million euros) extra if it does not comply with the agreement.

The settlement is separate from NHTSA’s ongoing investigation into arson in certain vehicles of both brands.
