The commerce and hospitality sectors demand that the Government “urgently” activate a plan of direct compensatory aid for an amount of 12,500 million euros, of which 8,500 would go to companies in the hotel and restaurant sector and another 4,000 to companies in the retail commerce.
This is what nine of the main employers’ associations from both sectors have requested this Wednesday, which have come together to create the Alliance of Commerce and Hospitality of Spain, under which they hope to reinforce the pressure on the administrations to demand measures that they consider essential for a situation that defined as “extremely serious”. In this sense, they demand the establishment of an “urgent” dialogue table with public administrations, in particular with the Ministry of Economy and with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. “After almost a year of the pandemic, we continue without receiving aid and we continue with restrictions, in many cases unjustified and that do not allow us to act with a margin of foresight. The alliance arises to propose solutions to the most critical problems and facilitate decision-making by administrations “, explained Carlos Moreno-Figueroa, spokesperson for the Spanish Confederation of Commerce.
The representatives of both sectors, which account for 19.2% of the Spanish Gross Domestic Product, ask for “concrete” and “urgent” measures in four main areas: financial, labor, rentals and tax matters. In the first point, they ask to extend the lack of credits with ICO guarantee until 12 months, in addition to a compensatory solution for companies that did not request them, together with a direct aid plan that is in proportion to the decrease in sales suffered in 2020 compared to 2019. In labor matters they ask to extend the ERTE until December and measures to “make more flexible” the workforce under a criterion of “proportionality”. Regarding rents, one of the proposals is to adjust the contracts under the application of the rebus sic stantibus clause, which would imply going to court referring to an exceptional situation that has had a direct impact on the income of the tenant; and in fiscal matters, they ask for the reduction of VAT temporarily to “boost consumption” and exemptions in rates such as IBI or garbage.
“We have been in permanent contact since the pandemic began with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, we have also had contacts with the Economy. We see that many of our measures are heard but they are not taken into account or only partially. We want that to be organized sectoral table that they have been promising us for a long time, “insisted Moreno-Figueroa, who has given the example of direct aid on account implanted in Germany as a model to follow in Spain. “They have been telling us in recent months that they were going to take into account direct aid, they have been talking lately, but they must be urgent.”
“We demand that there be a serious, well-endowed plan that reactivates and guarantees the future in the short term of our business. That is why we invite all the ministries concerned to agree on those measures that allow us to save our sectors,” he said for his The Secretary General of Restoration Brands Paula Nevado leaves. This has estimated at 148,000 the number of businesses in the hospitality sector that have closed, with the loss of half a million jobs and 82,000 million in income. The CEC spokesperson; for his part, he has indicated that in commerce the closure of 63,000 establishments and the loss of 17,000 million in turnover have been recorded.
