The president of Banco Santnader, Ana Botín, has once again emphasized the importance of helping SMEs in this crisis. “In the current moment of recovery after a crisis as tough as the one we have been through, we need entrepreneurs more than ever. SMEs are those that generate employment and support the Spanish middle class. We need to rebuild a more productive, more sustainable, more digital and inclusive economy; no alternative. For this, it is necessary to have more prosperous business entrepreneurs that allow us to grow ”, the banker declared during her conversation with Maite Barrera, president of Esade Alumni, at the celebration of the XXV Annual Esade Alumni Conference.
At the event, Botín received the Esade Award for his responsible leadership and his contribution to the improvement of diversity and inclusion in the company, for favoring access to education and for his commitment to combat climate change and face the global challenges.
The banker also stressed that it is necessary to “rebuild a more productive, more sustainable, more digital and inclusive economy.” “No alternative. For this, it is necessary to have more prosperous business entrepreneurs that allow us to grow ”. Ana Botín also shared her experience and advanced the challenges of the city of Barcelona, the impact of social networks, global causes, the role of entrepreneurs, as well as actions to promote gender equality and the role of banking, among others.
Botín has pointed out that “we need growth that encourages and finances investment in green technologies and reaches everyone, so that as our economies and societies reduce emissions, communities and countries are not left behind.”
The president of Santander also referred to the challenges facing banking in the midst of “a process of radical change in the relationship between banks and customers.” “Banks will become platforms, services will be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Botín pointed out, according to whom “the pandemic has shown that finance is part of our day-to-day life even if it is not possible to leave home. We have seen how digitization has accelerated and how access to all the financial services we need on a daily basis can be guaranteed ”, the banker advanced.
On the geopolitical situation, Botín has argued that Europe is sometimes ignored: “That is something that should concern us.”
