Point and end to the stage Antonio Vazquez as president of IAG, in which he was relieved this Thursday by the Spanish director of the holding Javier Ferran. Both the exit and the substitute had been predetermined on July 31, when it was also known that Luis Gallego he would take over as CEO at the September shareholders’ meeting.
“Antonio was instrumental in the creation and development of IAG. He has led the board with integrity and rigor since the Group was created in January 2011. He has made a great contribution to IAG and, previously, as Chairman of Iberia ”, Ferrán remarked.
The outgoing president thanked the members of the IAG board of directors, directors and staff for their trust. “I am certain that, under the leadership of Javier Ferrán and Luis Gallego, IAG will continue to develop in a sustainable way following the best corporate governance practices,” he said in the statement sent by IAG to the CNMV.
With the departure of Antonio Vázquez, who has fulfilled ten years leading the IAG board, the two men who signed the integration of British Airways and Iberia are already out: the Spanish and Willie Walsh.
Javier Ferrán is considered an expert in the area of consumption. Presides over Diageo, is a director of Coca Cola European Partners and a member of the supervisory board of Picard Surgeles.
During his career he has served on the boards of Associated British Foods; SABMiller, Agrolimen, Louis Dreyfus Holdings, Abbott Group, Desigual or Chupa Chups. He was Vice President of William Grants & Sons Limited (2005–2014) and held various senior positions at the Bacardi Group.
